KP Announces Relief Package For Disable, Orphans and Widows

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has unveiled a comprehensive financial relief package aimed at providing aid to vulnerable groups in the province, including persons with disabilities, orphans, and widows. At a Khuli Kachehri event in Swabi for differently-abled citizens, Zakat and Ushr Advisor Malik Liaquat Ali Khan revealed several new welfare initiatives incorporated into the current Annual Development Program.

Among these measures, the Ehsaas Umeed Card Program will commence this week, offering direct monthly financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries. Under this scheme, 10,000 persons with disabilities will receive a monthly stipend of Rs5,000, while a separate initiative will provide the same amount to qualified orphans and widows.

To streamline the process and minimize paperwork, the assistance will be directly transferred into beneficiaries' bank accounts, with registration services conducted at applicants' doorsteps. In an effort to promote financial independence for people with disabilities, the provincial government has established a Rs500 million interest-free loan program.

Additionally, an Ehsaas Scholarship Program worth Rs700 million has been launched to support higher education and skills development for students with disabilities. The package also includes a special quota under the provincial dowry fund for persons with disabilities, along with immediate relief measures. During the Swabi open court, an elderly disabled citizen received an instant grant of Rs50,000, demonstrating the government's commitment to providing swift assistance.
