‘Kingdom Hearts’ Anime Series Coming to Disney+

Disney announced the arrival of an upcoming animated "Kingdom Hearts" series during the D23 convention on Friday night. Created in collaboration with video game developer Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix's creative team, the series will be an anime adaptation of the popular video game franchise, premiering on both Disney Channel and Disney+.

The untitled series was described as a "reimagining of the iconic adventure" with a fresh storyline set to expand the Kingdom Hearts universe while honoring its beloved characters. According to Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, "Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere" with its unique blend of adventure and imagination.

"There's something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way," she added. The "Kingdom Hearts" franchise, which launched in 2002, has continued to gain popularity over the past two decades, incorporating beloved Disney characters into its games. This marks the first time the franchise has been adapted into a TV series or film.
