King told govt not to stop at TH, turn attention to Felda, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed the nation today, announcing that the Malaysian government would investigate governance issues within the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda). This decision comes after King Sultan Ibrahim instructed the government not to stop at examining the Tabung Haji Trust Fund, but to continue the investigations into other areas of concern as well.

Anwar, who also serves as the president of the opposition party PKR, emphasized that the move was not intended to punish anyone hastily, but rather to establish the facts and ensure that any wrongdoing is thoroughly investigated.

King Sultan Ibrahim's statement to the reporter was, "Don't stop with Tabung Haji, continue the investigations." Anwar explained that the inquiry into Felda would begin once the Tabung Haji matter had been addressed. He reminded the audience that the government is currently shouldering nearly RM1 billion annually in debt commitments to Felda, which he attributed to past management weaknesses.

Anwar stressed the importance of the government meeting these financial obligations to maintain Felda's operations and protect the welfare of its settlers. He further urged the enforcement agencies to conduct the investigation objectively and professionally, regardless of the individuals' political affiliations or backgrounds.

Anwar warned that some critics, including those in the intellectual elite, have accused him of acting out of vengeance if he takes action. He dismissed these claims, stating that his administration is taking decisive action now.
