Kindiki threatens to leak secrets of late-night meetings with Gachagua

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed that he had confidential meetings with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the night before Gachagua's impeachment. These meetings occurred when Kindiki was serving as the Interior Cabinet Secretary. Kindiki met with Gachagua multiple times to advise him on maintaining loyalty to President William Ruto, believing that this would benefit Gachagua's political future.

Kindiki noted that Gachagua dismissed his advice, stating that the latter found Kindiki's counsel unhelpful and now faces criticism. Kindiki aimed to prevent Gachagua from being removed from office and believed Gachagua's downfall stemmed from his overconfidence. The Deputy President's comments exacerbate their public feud, which has grown increasingly contentious recently.

Gachagua has since called on Kindiki to stop referring to him as his brother and accused him of arrogance and disrespect towards other leaders. This dispute follows Gachagua's recent questioning of Kindiki's claims of mutual respect while Kindiki insists on addressing Gachagua as his brother due to their shared cultural heritage.

The escalating disagreement between the two leaders takes place amid political tensions in the Mt Kenya region as they vie for support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
