Karaoke in the car? China’s new wave of gadget-laden electric vehicles

China's electric vehicle (EV) industry is leading the way with new features that transform cars into full entertainment centers. These gadgets include voice-activated AI assistants, headlights that double as film projectors, and even karaoke systems. The aim is to attract a younger generation of drivers and boost sales in a domestic market that has seen a sales downturn.

"Intelligent features are propelling sales because of young Chinese drivers' willingness to embrace new technologies," said a sales director at a Shanghai-based dealer. Chinese auto brands, tech firms, and component suppliers are responding quickly to market demands, making in-vehicle entertainment more affordable. The Chinese auto industry's focus on autonomous and intelligent EVs has helped them stand out from global competitors.

A new type of hi-tech headlights project films, video games, and animations, and can even beam navigation arrows onto the road. Chinese firms, particularly those in the display technology sector, are gaining an edge over international rivals due to their technological advancements and production capabilities. Micro-LED displays, with their higher brightness, better color accuracy, and longer lifespan, are set to revolutionize the global advanced display market, potentially challenging US-based tech firms like Texas Instruments.

Chinese EV makers are also partnering with international music and tech firms to offer in-car karaoke systems, signaling a growing trend of smart features in premium EVs.
