Jeff McNeil goes 4 for 5 as the Athletics beat the Rangers 8-3

West Sacramento, Calif. (AP) — Jeff McNeil contributed to the Athletics' 8-3 victory over the Texas Rangers by going 4 for 5 with three RBIs, including a go-ahead home run. The Athletics ended a three-game slide with the win on Friday night. Lawrence Butler also hit a home run for the Athletics, who are currently on a 15-game losing streak.

The Athletics took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning when Carlos Cortes drove a 1-2 slider from Kumar Rocker to right, loading the bases and scoring an Athletics run. The Rangers responded in the sixth inning with a three-run homer from Jake Burger that tied the game and ended Gage Jump's start. McNeil added a 400-foot homer in the sixth, his fifth of the season, giving the Athletics a 6-3 lead.

Butler added another home run in the seventh inning, extending the Athletics' lead to 7-3. The Rangers were held to just four hits and were 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position. Chase Silseth took the loss for the Rangers after allowing one run in one inning. Texas will face the Athletics again on Saturday when LHP Mackenzie Gore starts for the Rangers against A's RHP J.T. Ginn.
