Jeddah authorities shut down two illegal sites, destroy over 3.4 tons of unsafe food

The Jeddah Municipality has taken action against two illegal sites in the Umm Al-Salam district, where unregulated food and unauthorized bakery operations were taking place. Inspectors found unsafe food products and spoiled materials at both sites, leading to their closure and the confiscation of dangerous equipment.

At the first site, 2,500 kilograms of unregulated food products, including nine refrigerated units filled with leftovers of unknown origin, were seized. The Municipality destroyed these items, as they were found in unsanitary conditions and posed a risk to food safety. The equipment used for storage and preparation was also confiscated, and the site's workers were referred to the relevant authorities.

The second illegal site housed an unlicensed bakery that was producing white bread using primitive methods in unsanitary conditions. Inspectors discovered 900 kilograms of spoiled flour, 65 bags of dried bread, and an unknown quantity of corn. All seized materials were destroyed, and the site's equipment was confiscated. The workers were referred to the authorities for further legal action.

Both inspections were part of a larger campaign to curb illegal practices, enhance food safety, and ensure compliance with health and municipal regulations. The joint effort involved multiple agencies, including the Sub-Municipalities Agency, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, field enforcement teams, and Civil Defense.
