Jack Britt football jamboree cleared for parents only in final game

On Friday night, the Cumberland County high school football jamboree at Jack Britt High School took an unexpected turn. As the Cape Fear vs. Overhills game came to a close, a series of fights erupted, causing a stampede of fans running in the same direction and jumping over fences. The Jack Britt administration intervened, instructing referees to halt the final game between Jack Britt and Westover.

The altercation commenced with less than two minutes left on the clock during the Cape Fear vs. Overhills match, leading to confusion among players, coaches, and on-field staff. A game-clock run-off was implemented to finalize the game. As the third play began, the chaotic crowd escalated, prompting an increase in police presence to quell the fights. This surge in law enforcement and the resulting disorder resulted in a significant 20-minute interruption of the match, forcing fans to evacuate the stadium for their safety.

Once the fan exodus was complete, the stadium doors were reopened to welcome parents. They were allowed to remain on-site to show their support for their children's teams and witness the conclusion of the jamboree.
