Indonesia Eyes 1,000 Tons of Premium Rice Exports to Malaysia

The Indonesian government has set its sights on exporting 1,000 metric tons of premium rice to Malaysia, marking a significant milestone in the country's food security efforts as it celebrates its 81st Independence Day anniversary. According to the state-run logistics company Bulog, the planned shipment is intended to showcase Indonesia's expanding market presence and the hard work of its farmers.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani made the announcement on Saturday, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia's Padi dan Beras Borneo Sdn. Bhd. The deal was witnessed by Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman. Ramdhani highlighted the trade agreement as a gift for Indonesia and a testament to the country's resilient food system, bolstered by ample domestic supplies and room for export.

The minister emphasized that the initial shipment of 1,000 tons will serve as the first consignment under the partnership, with annual exports anticipated to gradually increase to 200,000 tons. He stressed that maintaining national food security remains Bulog's top priority, and the success of this export opportunity will be attributed to Indonesia's strong rice production trends.

Ramdhani also underscored Bulog's commitment to strengthening cooperation with domestic and international partners, including government institutions, to support food security, improve farmers' welfare, and expand market opportunities. The minister reiterated that food exports would not compromise domestic supplies, assuring the public of the country's continued self-sufficiency in food production.
