Gen-Z should take up the fight against Bidadi township project: Devanur Mahadeva

Renowned writer Devanur Mahadeva urged the younger generation to spearhead the opposition against the proposed Bidadi Township project. Addressing reporters at a press conference in Mysuru on August 14, 2026, Mahadeva suggested that the new generation should spearhead the movement, stating, "The new generation should lead the movement and we will follow them."

He questioned the appropriateness of the government acquiring agricultural land, demanding an answer to a crucial question: who would continue farming if all farmers relinquish their land? Mahadeva warned of potential consequences, including unemployment and rural-urban migration, which could lead to slum formation. He called attention to the Bidadi Township project's lack of legal validity, citing a report from a four-member committee led by retired Supreme Court Judge V Gopalagowda.

This report also highlighted the project's detrimental impact on the environment. The press conference also saw the presence of KRRS leader Badagalapura Nagendra, who proposed a padayatra from Byramangala to Bengaluru's Freedom Park on August 25, urging the state government to abandon the project. KRRS General Secretary T. Yashwanth and Samaj Parivarthana Samudaya (SPS) Founder S.R. Hiremath, both present at the event, also voiced their opposition to the Bidadi Township project.
