Gargash: Repeated attacks on ADNOC vessels will not alter UAE approach

Dr Anwar Gargash, the Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, stated on Saturday that repeated attacks on ADNOC vessels will not dissuade the UAE from maintaining a balanced and rational policy founded on deterrence, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. His remarks came after the latest attack on an ADNOC vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, where no injuries were reported.

Gargash reiterated that the UAE will protect its right to freedom of navigation and use of the Strait of Hormuz, while upholding its sovereignty and national interests. He also emphasized the importance of a unified Gulf stance in light of ongoing tensions, aiming to fortify a common GCC approach to safeguard regional security and Gulf state interests.

This follows a series of attacks on ADNOC vessels, including two on Thursday, which were attributed to Iran and condemned by the UAE as violating international law and posing a threat to freedom of navigation. Since the onset of the regional conflict, 15 ADNOC vessels have been targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in one death and 20 injuries.

The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial energy corridor vital for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, has seen a decline in traffic due to the escalating attacks and political tensions, heightening concerns over its strategic significance.
