Freedom means living without fear and with dignity, says Kerala Minister Bindhu Krishna in Independence Day address

Kerala Minister Bindu Krishna emphasized that true freedom involves living without fear and with dignity, during her 80th Independence Day address at Captain Vikram Ground in Kozhikode. She underscored that India's strength is rooted in embracing diversity and moving forward collectively. Reflecting on the sacrifices made by figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and others, Krishna highlighted that independence was achieved through the efforts of both leaders and ordinary citizens.

She noted that while significant advancements have been made in science, technology, and infrastructure, challenges like unemployment, economic inequality, and digital divides persist. Krishna stressed that dissent is essential to a functioning democracy and warned against hatred and division. She highlighted Kerala's human development model, emphasizing that genuine progress is reflected in the well-being of ordinary individuals, such as the improved conditions for women, including safe travel and financial independence.

The Minister paid tribute to Kargil martyr Captain P.V. Vikram, whose name graces the event's location. She called upon citizens to uphold constitutional values and work towards an inclusive society. The Minister also acknowledged the contributions of various police units and local authorities present at the parade, which featured 23 platoons from different police units, along with band teams.

Trophies were awarded to top-performing units, with DHQ Kozhikode City winning first place in the uniformed services category and BEM Girls Higher Secondary SPC securing first place in the children’s category. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem and cultural performances by school students.
