Fire guts Lagos hotel

A fire broke out at the Purple Crown Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to a first floor room without any reported casualties. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the fire was contained and extinguished through joint efforts by the agency, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Police.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, revealed that the fire, which was reported at 9:52 am, was possibly caused by an electrical fault. All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated to a designated muster point, and a roll call was conducted to confirm everyone's safety. Access to the hotel was restricted as a precaution, with the affected section remaining cordoned off until a detailed assessment could be carried out.

LASEMA praised the emergency responders for their swift, professional, and collaborative response, emphasizing the importance of regular electrical maintenance, fire suppression equipment, and staff training on emergency evacuation procedures. The public was urged to remain calm and report emergencies promptly through designated toll-free lines.
