DCP team to honour late Elburgon activist Richard Otieno during Nakuru County tour

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) team, headed by party leader Rigathi Gachagua, will stop in Elburgon during Gachagua's second day of his Nakuru County tour on August 15, 2026, to pay tribute to late activist Richard Raymond Otieno. Otieno, also known as the Molo President, was a passionate youth leader and human rights advocate from the Elburgon area of Molo Constituency.

He was brutally murdered on January 18, 2025, outside his rented apartment, just meters from the Elburgon Police Station. Otieno had faced threats and endured an assault prior to his death, having been active in the 2024 protests and criticizing local leadership. His untimely demise triggered widespread outrage, with residents blocking roads, storming the mortuary, and carrying his body through the streets demanding justice.

A few suspects were apprehended and face murder charges, while others were released to serve as state witnesses. Meanwhile, Gachagua is set to continue his Nakuru County tour on the same day, with the second day of engagements expected to take him to various towns across the county. The tour follows an incident the previous day, where Gachagua's convoy was reportedly pelted with stones in Soko Mjinga, Nakuru West, disrupting party mobilization efforts.

Gachagua has accused politicians allied to the government from Nakuru County of orchestrating the alleged attack on his convoy, a claim that has fueled political tensions surrounding his visit. The DCP team's itinerary for Saturday includes the opening of the DCP Nakuru County office, followed by visits to Njoro Posta, Elburgon Town, Molo Keep Left, and finally Rongai Town.
