Court Restrains Imo Govt, Police, Others from Blocking Ugochinyere’s Rallies, Meetings

A High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order against the Imo State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and local government chairmen to prevent them from interfering with the civic and political activities of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere. The order was issued in response to a petition filed by Chizubor Ezike, representing Ugochinyere, and covers a range of activities including peaceful rallies, processions, meetings, campaigns, and lawful civic events.

The court's decision explicitly bars defendants from preventing Ugochinyere and his supporters from utilizing venues for such activities within the federal constituency and beyond. Additionally, the court forbids the defendants from destroying or removing billboards and signage installed by Ugochinyere, as well as from obstructing his freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and movement.

This ruling comes amid concerns regarding attempts to disrupt Ugochinyere's events and meetings, particularly those organized by his political party, the Action Peoples Party (APP). The court's decision underscores the importance of upholding constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, assembly, and movement, especially in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. The injunction remains in place until a scheduled further hearing on November 4.
