Commanders beat Dolphins 20-7 as Marcus Mariota leaves with a leg injury

Washington Commanders defeated Miami Dolphins 20-7 in the preseason opener, with rookie Malik Willis delivering an impressive performance. Willis led a 14-play, 93-yard touchdown drive, showcasing his talent as Miami's new quarterback. Miami's veteran backup Marcus Mariota started the game but only lasted four plays before suffering a leg injury.

Mariota walked off the field under his own power and was treated in the medical tent. The Commanders held out their healthy players, including starter Jayden Daniels and offensive coordinator David Blough. Outside linebacker De’Von Achane also played only the first series, scoring a 1-yard touchdown run.
