Campbell still trying to find answers for Lions offensive line

Allen Park, Michigan (AP) — As training camp enters its twelfth day and the Lions have played one preseason game, uncertainty remains surrounding the team's offensive line. Coach Dan Campbell is still searching for answers, having learned more about the line's performance in a recent loss to Cincinnati.

While most starters, including left tackle Penei Sewell, did not see action, Campbell observed right tackle Blake Miller and center Seth McLaughlin during the game. Both players started in camp.

Campbell has been positive about Miller's consistency and demeanor, noting his performance in both run and pass games. McLaughlin, a second-year player who will be out due to a wrist injury, stepped in for Cade Mays, who sustained the same injury. McLaughlin collaborated with Michael Niese and Juice Scruggs, a veteran returning from a soft tissue injury, in the lineup.

Campbell emphasized McLaughlin's strengths, particularly his ability to play low and excel in the second level. He also praised Christian Mahogany, who started 11 games at left guard last season, for his physical force. Despite Mahogany's occasional inconsistency, Campbell believes he has the potential to anchor the line effectively. With two preseason games left, Campbell has ample time to identify the five best starters for the upcoming season.
