Benintendi’s tie-breaking RBI single sends White Sox to crucial 4-3 win over Tigers

On Saturday, the Chicago White Sox secured a crucial 4-3 victory against the Detroit Tigers, winning both games in a row. Andrew Benintendi played a pivotal role in the win, contributing two hits, including the decisive single that broke the tie in the seventh inning. The White Sox, currently leading the AL Central by 4 1/2 games, now boast a season-best record of 64-58.

Jordan Hicks provided relief pitching for the White Sox, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Bryan Hudson secured the save in the ninth inning. The Tigers, on the other hand, have struggled this season, recording a 60-63 record. In the first inning, the teams traded runs, with the White Sox's Braden Montgomery and the Tigers' Eduardo Valencia both driving in a run.

Despite a chance to extend their lead, the White Sox fell behind as Chicago's Jake Rogers bunted into a double play, and Spencer Torkelson made an out on a ground ball. However, Colson Montgomery's two-out, two-run double gave the White Sox a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Valencia hit a home run in the fourth inning, bringing the Tigers to within a run.

In the fifth inning, Chicago got a runner to third base with one out, but Drew Sommers and the White Sox struck out Braden Montgomery and Colson Montgomery to end the inning. The Tigers scored the tying run in the bottom of the inning on consecutive doubles by Corey Jankowski and Gleyber Torres. In the crucial seventh inning, Benintendi delivered the go-ahead single off Sommers, securing the White Sox's 4-3 win.

The series will conclude on Sunday with the Tigers facing off against the White Sox, with Drew Anderson taking the mound for Detroit and Sean Burke for Chicago.
