Australia dismissed Bangladesh for 426 runs in their first innings, a total set on a scorching, sunny afternoon at Marrara Oval on day three of the first Test on Saturday. Bangladesh, who were 351 for six after the first day, managed to add another 75 runs and built a lead of 228 runs over their opponents. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a crucial role in guiding his team to the formidable score, coming in at number seven and anchoring the innings. He scored 65 runs to help stabilize the innings.

Miraz's efforts were instrumental in setting up a competitive total for Bangladesh. The match was marked by the return of paceman Josh Hazlewood, who played a pivotal role in Australia's victory. Hazlewood finished the innings with figures of 6-89, contributing to a standout performance by taking all four of Bangladesh's final wickets. His fifth wicket, which included the dismissal of Miraz, marked a significant milestone for him, bringing his total number of Test wickets to 300.

However, Australia's bowling performance was not without its shortcomings. The team's fielding struggles were evident in the morning session of the match, with captain Pat Cummins and fast bowler Steve Smith dropping crucial catches. Cummins dropped two balls from the same over, and Smith missed out on a record 219th catch in Tests by failing to take a regulation catch at deep backward square leg.

Despite these challenges, the Australian team managed to maintain their lead in the first innings. The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to be played in Mackay, Queensland, starting on August 22.
