Aussie Lani Pallister beats Katie Ledecky to win Pan Pacs 400 free

Irvin, California (AP) — Australian swimmer Lani Pallister overtook American Katie Ledecky to claim victory in the 400-meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships on Friday night. The final was less exciting without Canadian world record holder Summer McIntosh, who was unable to advance to the evening's main event. Pallister maintained a world-record pace throughout the first 150 meters, finishing in a time of 3 minutes, 58.42 seconds.

Ledecky, who had a chance to close the gap on the final lap, secured the silver medal in 4:00.15. Pallister, a 24-year-old Australian, is considered one of Ledecky's top rivals, having earned numerous international medals in various freestyle events. Despite her impressive performance, Pallister expressed dissatisfaction, stating that she wasn't satisfied with reaching the four-minute mark in an international final.

Ledecky, who didn't compete in the 400-meter event this week, acknowledged the fierce competition she faces from athletes around the globe.
