Auckland Airport enters next phase of international terminal redevelopment

Auckland Airport is embarking on the next phase of its international terminal redevelopment, focusing on the renovation of retail and duty-free areas for both departing and arriving passengers. This significant airside refurbishment marks the most substantial change to the airport's retail spaces in a decade. Renovations are currently underway at international departure and arrival gates, including the addition of two stores in the duty-free area near departure gates.

The revamped areas will feature new layouts and an expanded product range, with beauty and fragrance taking center stage in the changes.

Auckland Airport's Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Thomson, highlighted that the alterations aim to provide travellers with a more engaging experience and a wider selection of products, thereby strengthening the airport's retail mix and enhancing the overall customer proposition. This redevelopment will also include the opening of new standalone retail stores, alongside ongoing improvements to food and beverage areas planned for later this year.

Two standalone stores, a skincare brand named Aesop and a French fragrance brand, Le Labo, are set to open later this year. While some of the refurbished duty-free areas have already reopened, the remaining retail refurbishments are expected to be completed by December. The airport reassures that the overall footprint of its duty-free area will remain unchanged as part of this redevelopment initiative.

The international terminal transformation, which began in January, is being carried out in stages while the terminal remains operational. The airport advises passengers to allow extra time for security screening and to reach their gates during this period of redevelopment.
