Army intercepts courier with 180 explosives in Zamfara

On Friday, the Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, captured a suspected arms and explosives courier in Zamfara State. The suspect, 57-year-old Sani Umar, was discovered transporting 180 20mm Super Power explosives from Gusau Local Government Area to suspected terrorist groups in Katsina State. Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), confirmed that a search of Umar's vehicle resulted in the discovery of the explosives.

The suspect, vehicle, and recovered explosives are now in military custody for further investigation. Simultaneously, troops in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area conducted offensive operations against terrorist elements, resulting in the killing of two suspected terrorists and the recovery of two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles.

Another group of terrorists attempted to ambush the troops, but were repelled. The military reported that several wounded terrorists, along with the bodies of some colleagues, were evacuated by the fleeing group. The operations highlight the ongoing offensive stance of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, targeting both terrorist strongholds and their supply networks.

The Theatre Command pledged to continue offensive operations to disrupt terrorist activities and deny them freedom of action across the North West region.
