Anwar on Tabung Haji RCI findings: ‘RM12b was lost, isn’t that sakau?’

Melaka, August 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that instances of "sakau" (fund misappropriation) did occur at the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), as indicated by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the institution. The Finance Minister clarified that the term "sakau" should not be ignored or disputed if the evidence demonstrates that funds had been lost from an organization responsible for managing the savings of Muslims.

"Some individuals are uncomfortable with the term 'sakau'. I want to reiterate here in Melaka that there was indeed 'sakau' in Tabung Haji. RM12 billion was lost, isn't that 'sakau'?" Anwar stated during his Presidential Policy Speech at the 2026 Keadilan National Congress in Melaka. He emphasized that those responsible for the misappropriation must be held accountable, irrespective of their position or political affiliation, as the repercussions of the actions of a few ultimately affected all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.
