Anwar may make more announcements as early as tomorrow, says Fahmi

Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, the PKR information chief, disclosed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim may unveil additional announcements as early as tomorrow. This comes in light of the party's leadership deliberating on proposals presented by delegates at the 2026 PKR National Congress, in response to Anwar's statement about the government's plan to abolish the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU).

Among the suggestions was a proposal to restore the monthly RON95 quota under the Budi95 targeted subsidy scheme to 300 litres, with others advocating for an increase to 500 litres. In 2018, the government scaled back the RON95 quota under Budi95 from 300 to 200 litres due to global economic and geopolitical factors. Fahmi, during a congress session at the Melaka International Trade Centre, mentioned that the party leadership will weigh the perspectives and proposals provided by delegates to determine potential actions.

While he was uncertain if those advocating for a return to 300 litres were present, he emphasized the importance of the leadership listening and translating those inputs into practical steps. Anwar, who serves as both the Prime Minister and PKR president, had earlier announced in his policy speech that AUKU would be abolished to grant university students more autonomy. This decision would also be discussed with the Cabinet on Wednesday.
