Anthropic’s revenue surges 1,360% to $11.5 billion as IPO looms

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup that created the Claude chatbot, has seen its quarterly revenue skyrocket by 1,360% to surpass $11.5 billion. This remarkable growth surge was reported by Bloomberg News, drawing from documents shown to potential investors ahead of Anthropic's planned initial public offering (IPO). The company made this announcement just two months after filing confidential paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to begin the IPO process, marking the first major generative AI company to initiate this path.

Preliminary SEC filings revealed that Anthropic's revenue for the second quarter of 2026 alone exceeded $11.5 billion, up from $787 million in the same period last year, marking an increase of more than fourteenfold year-on-year. The first quarter's revenue was reported at $4.73 billion, indicating a sharp acceleration in growth within a single quarter.

While the exact figures are still under review, Anthropic has opted not to comment on the matter. The company's revenue growth is significant, especially as investors increasingly base their evaluations on future earnings potential rather than current financial performance. This growth expectation vastly exceeds Anthropic's disclosed annual revenue run rate of $47 billion, set in May.

The substantial gap between these figures underscores the magnitude of growth that investors anticipate and wish to incorporate into Anthropic's potential IPO valuation. When Anthropic filed for its IPO in June, key details such as the number of shares to be offered and the pricing were still undecided. The IPO would see Anthropic ahead of several major AI rivals in their race to go public, including DeepSeek in China, which began IPO preparations and could file as early as this year, and Perplexity AI, which plans to go public in 2028.

The rapid proliferation of AI-related listings has contributed to a resurgence in the global IPO market, with investors continuing to pour funds into companies developing advanced AI models and infrastructure.
