Alleged injunction against NPP Ashanti regional elections ‘invalid’ – Committee Chairperson

According to the Ashanti Regional Executive Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a recent court injunction claiming to halt the regional executive elections is invalid and lacks legal effect. Committee Chairperson Rita Talata Asobayire stated this during an interview with Adom News in Kumasi, where voting is ongoing.

Asobayire emphasized that the election committee was not properly named in the court documents, which she believes renders the injunction invalid. She explained that for a court order to bind the committee, it must be duly served on the specific body responsible for conducting the elections. Asobayire, a former police officer, further noted that the alleged injunction failed to include the election committee in its service, making it invalid.

She stressed that the committee has not defied any court order and that preparations for the elections are ongoing. More than 500 police officers have been deployed to ensure law and order during the voting process. Asobayire urged aspirants, supporters, and delegates to maintain peace and order, appealing to all to avoid actions that could tarnish the party’s reputation.

The NPP is holding regional executive elections nationwide to elect new executives for the party’s regional branches. In the Ashanti Region, 1,020 delegates are slated to vote, with 34 candidates competing for 11 executive positions.
