The San Francisco 49ers are showing significant interest in acquiring Tampa Bay Buccaneers star defensive tackle Vita Vea, according to reports. NFL Media's Mike Garafolo stated on Friday, before the Buccaneers faced the New York Jets, that the 49ers were among several teams, including the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, that have inquired about trading for Vea.

Vea, who requested a trade after the Buccaneers' training camp, is currently sidelined during training camp as he seeks a new contract. His current deal, which concludes after this season, pays an average of $17.75 million annually. However, high-profile defensive tackles like Jalen Carter, Quinnen Williams, and Jeffrey Simmons recently signed contracts worth over $35 million each per year.

With no imminent trade deal confirmed, the 49ers seem to be actively pursuing Vea to enhance their pass rush. Vea's impressive performance in 2021, with 4.5 sacks and 51 pressures, could prove invaluable to the 49ers, especially considering the potential injury concerns facing defensive end Nick Bosa. The Buccaneers, however, have not shown any interest in trading Vea or negotiating a contract extension with the former first-round pick.
