2027: APC, ADC, NDC, PDP, Others Race to Ready Campaign Machinery for Elections

In preparation for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, the major political parties in Nigeria - the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - are intensifying their grassroots mobilisation and campaign structures.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the details of the 19 presidential candidates and their running mates, allowing parties to commence the next phase of the electoral contest.

President Bola Tinubu, representing the APC, is seeking re-election with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate. On the other side, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is contesting for the ADC alongside Rotimi Amaechi, while Peter Obi, the former Anambra State Governor, is the NDC's presidential candidate with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Kano State Governor, as his running mate.

For the ruling APC, preparations are focused on consolidating its structures and mobilising support for Tinubu-Shettima's re-election, with the goal of securing the party's Renewed Hope Agenda. The party has activated its grassroots mobilisation machinery, with state coordinators for Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Canvassers, aiming to build support from polling units, wards, and local government areas.

The ADC, on the other hand, is centred on building a nationwide grassroots structure around Atiku and Amaechi while sustaining efforts to bring opposition forces together. They have been strengthening their structures at state and local government levels and developing grassroots-oriented campaign structures, particularly targeting young voters, women, first-time voters, and community leaders.

The NDC's immediate focus is on internal cohesion and grassroots mobilisation, with an emphasis on alliances with political forces sharing its vision. The PDP, despite recent legal battles, has its organisational and mobilisation issues ready, waiting for approval from its National Executive Committee and National Working Committee before commencing the electioneering process.
