YPF files for largest-ever RIGI project at US$51 billion

Argentina's state-owned energy giant, YPF, has announced plans to seek the country's Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) for its Argentine LNG project, the most extensive of its kind. The regime provides tax, customs, and foreign exchange benefits to investors. Argentina LNG aims to produce natural gas in Vaca Muerta, an unconventional oil field, and export it in liquefied form.

The US$51 billion project is a joint venture between YPF, Eni, and Abu Dhabi's XRG. YPF's CEO Horacio Marín highlighted the significance of this move in advancing the project's objectives, which include job creation, technological advancements, and enhanced international integration. The project is expected to generate nearly US$10 billion in exports annually over two decades, bolstering Argentina's trade balance and foreign exchange earnings.
