Woman killed, 14 injured after vehicles collide on Accra–Kumasi highway

A fatal road accident occurred on the Accra–Kumasi highway on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, claiming the life of a woman and injuring 14 others. The collision involved a MAN Diesel truck and a Toyota Hiace. The incident took place near Paradise Restaurant, when the truck, moving towards the Accra route, drifted into the opposite lane and struck the Toyota Hiace.

Emergency services, alerted by a distress call around 7:30 p.m., dispatched a six-member team from the Bunso Fire Station. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 7:46 p.m., discovering the two vehicles severely damaged. Eyewitnesses reported that the MAN truck, registered AS 4765-11, was attempting to overtake a Toyota Vitz, which was allegedly driving in an improper manner. This maneuver caused the truck to veer across the road, resulting in a collision with the side of the Toyota Hiace, registered ER 655-25.

The front portion of the truck sustained partial damage, while the Hiace suffered side damage from the impact. Emergency crews attended to the injured and retrieved personal belongings from the vehicles. Tragically, one female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while 14 other occupants sustained injuries. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation, with authorities expected to determine the factors that led to this devastating collision.

The fire crew concluded their duties after clearing the affected section of the highway and departed the scene at approximately 8:46 p.m.
