Venus Williams falls again at Cincinnati Open, singles skid hits 13 with 6-2, 6-2 loss to qualifier

MASON, Ohio (AP) — Venus Williams' losing streak in singles has now reached 13 matches. The seven-time major champion was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by qualifier Emiliana Arango in the first round of the Cincinnati Open on Friday. Williams, 46, had not won a singles match since July 2025. Arango, 25, won the match in 1 hour, 5 minutes on the grandstand court at Lindner Tennis Center.

Williams struggled to convert on break points and had a low first-serve success rate. Arango will face top seed and defending champion Iga Swiatek in the next round, while Williams will play doubles with her sister Serena after both received wild-card entries.
