UPDATE | Fadiel Adams to stand trial in September

Fadiel Adams is set to go on trial in September at the Pinetown Regional Court, facing charges of interfering in the Sindiso Magaqa murder investigation. The matter was recently transferred to the regional court due to the completion of the state's investigation. Adams is scheduled to return to court on September 11 for the trial commencement.

The National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament is accused of fraud and damaging the administration of justice, stemming from his alleged involvement in the case. He was released in May on a R10,000 bail, but under strict conditions imposed by Magistrate Wendalyn Robinson. These include mandatory visits to the Mitchells Plain police station twice a week, prohibition from communication with witnesses, SAPS officers, Durban Metro police officers, and members of the Political Killings Task Team.

Adams is also confined to reside between two addresses - a Mitchells Plain residence and his Parliamentary Village home.

The State alleges Adams visited Westville Prison on two occasions in November 2024 and January 2025 to conduct interviews with two inmates, without proper authorization. He reportedly recorded these interviews, claiming to be on official duty, which led to an official escort from King Shaka International Airport to the correctional center. The State further claims Adams was not granted official permission by Parliament to conduct these visits.

Adams is also expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on August 19, following the receipt of his sworn affidavit and supporting documents just hours before a scheduled appearance. The commission will question Adams about his possession and circulation of sensitive Crime Intelligence documents, which he claims were anonymously delivered to his parliamentary office. The commission will also scrutinize the Section 27 affidavit utilized in investigations involving senior Crime Intelligence officials.
