Trump administration strips AMLO’s son of his US visa

On Thursday, the U.S. government withdrew the visa of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The move drew a vehement response from Andy López Beltrán, who accused President Donald Trump of acting "politically motivated and propagandistic, in the Hitlerian style." Andy dismissed the significance of the action by stating he has no issue with not visiting the U.S. amid "hate, racism and drug addiction."

He maintained that there is "no reason whatsoever" to target him, claiming he is driven by the values and honesty taught by his parents. Andy noted that if Trump were aware of the decision, it would be considered "arrogant" and indicate he is now an "apathetic leader," contrasting sharply with his father's time in office. Andy's father previously served as Mexican president from 2018 to 2024, which overlapped with Trump's first term (2017-2021).

Andy specifically targeted U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Undersecretary Christopher Landau, referring to Landau as "El Quitavisas" or "The Visa Taker." Landau, who was U.S. ambassador to Mexico during Trump's first term, gained notoriety for aggressively revoking visas for Mexican citizens deemed to mock U.S. figures, glorify violence, or engage in corruption.

In recent months, Landau issued a series of visa revocations against 50 Mexican politicians, many of whom were linked to the ruling Morena party, which Andy once headed as secretary of organization. Opposition parties called for an investigation into Andy's potential involvement in fuel theft and influence trafficking, urging the Federal Attorney General's Office to look into his financial affairs.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the revocation of Andy's visa as "a politically motivated decision aimed at meddling in Mexico's internal affairs."
