Track preparation problems delay practice at Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham

Organizers of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham have expressed regret to spectators after construction delays on the new street circuit impeded practice sessions for the upcoming NTT IndyCar Series event. The 12-turn, 3.52-kilometre road course, situated in downtown Markham, has seen no cars take to the track so far, impacting today's practice for six races on the weekend agenda.

According to organizers, practice for the main event will commence once the track is deemed safe to use. This marks the first time Markham has hosted Canada's only IndyCar race after the event relocated from Toronto's Exhibition Place, where it had been held since its inception in 1986. The decision to shift the venue was announced by IndyCar and the City of Markham in September.

The temporary track, constructed for the first time this week, stretches between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, the Unionville GO tracks, and Highway 407. Qualifying is set for Saturday, with the IndyCar race scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
