Tinubu vows to make Nigeria’s refineries work

President Bola Tinubu has assured that Nigeria's refineries will be restored to full, sustainable, and profitable operation, delivering value to Nigerians. Speaking to newly elected NUPENG leadership, Tinubu described his administration's approach as a structural and economic reset. He took responsibility for fixing the country's refineries, rejecting blame for the past.

The refineries, which include facilities in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna, have been unproductive for decades. Recently, NNPC signed an agreement with a Chinese firm to fix and operate the refineries on its behalf. Tinubu praised NUPENG for its partnership with governments and cooperation with his administration's reforms. He challenged critics that the fuel subsidy removal had benefited ordinary Nigerians, pointing to the regular payment of salaries to workers at all government levels and the impact of government spending on economic activities.
