Timberwolves Announce Date for Kevin Garnett's Jersey Retirement

The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced that Kevin Garnett's jersey number 21 will be retired on February 28, 2027. This ceremony will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis after a primetime Sunday Night Basketball game against the Boston Celtics, which will be broadcast on NBC. Garnett becomes the second Timberwolves player to have his number retired, following Malik Sealy.

The Hall of Famer, who spent 14 seasons with the team, joins the elite club of players with their number retired due to their significant contributions to the franchise. Garnett, who led the Timberwolves in various statistical categories throughout his career, expressed his deep appreciation for the moment, stating that Minnesota remains home to him and that retiring No. 21 is a deeply meaningful experience.

New Timberwolves owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez welcomed Garnett back to the organization as a team ambassador last December, and the retirement ceremony is part of a season-long celebration honoring his legacy. Four additional theme nights dedicated to Garnett are planned, beginning with a commemoration of his draft night when he was selected by the Timberwolves on December 16.
