The End of Oak Street review: Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor can’t save dinosaur romp

The End of Oak Street is a dinosaur romp that cannot save itself with the talents of Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. Despite the film's ambitious premise, it falls short in meeting the potential of its era. Writer-director David Robert Mitchell attempts to craft a unique universe with elements of wormholes and space ripples, but the execution lacks substance.

The neighborhood of Oak Street, home to happy families and close-knit relationships, becomes a playground for gigantic dinosaurs overnight. Denise Platt, played by Hathaway, and Greg Platt, portrayed by McGregor, are part of the latter group, with their children Audrey and Brian. The sudden intrusion of prehistoric creatures disrupts their peaceful lives, leading to a series of destructive encounters.

Despite the film's dire need for a sociological exploration, it remains a pure and simple dystopian spectacle, featuring dinosaurs and humans locked in a never-ending battle. Hathaway and McGregor give their all to their roles, as do the child actors, but the story's weak foundation prevents them from delivering a memorable performance.

The film's cast includes Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisey Stella, Christian Convery, and P J Byrne, with David Robert Mitchell as the director. Unfortunately, The End of Oak Street only manages to earn a 2-star rating.
