Terrorist behind Jammu railway station bomb blast arrested after 35 years

On Thursday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu apprehended a fugitive terrorist who had evaded capture for 35 years in connection with the 1991 Jammu railway station bomb blast. The incident, which claimed the lives of three individuals, including two from the paramilitary forces, and injured 18 civilians, has finally been resolved.

Altaf Hussain Sheikh, a resident of Bijbehara in Anantnag, was charged under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and other pertinent sections of the Ranbir Penal Code at the Police Station GRP Jammu. According to GRP's spokesperson in Jammu, the accused had managed to live underground and disguise his identity for several decades.

Sheikh was one of the four individuals involved in the bombing at platform number 1 of Jammu railway station on April 2, 1991. While one of the accused, Aman Ullah Khan, was apprehended on the day of the attack, the other three managed to escape and were declared absconders by a court. Over the past two years, GRP Jammu carried out an intensive search for Sheikh, who was eventually discovered living under a false identity as a prosperous businessman.
