Sylva’s aide faults reports linking ex-minister to coup plot

Chief Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva, has expressed concerns over reports linking his principal to an alleged coup plot. Bokoru criticized certain media narratives, alleging they reinforced a specific perception of Sylva without concrete evidence.

He emphasized the importance of scrutinizing sources and methods behind information before disseminating it. Bokoru questioned the origin and timing of materials used in some reports, suggesting a deliberate campaign to shape public opinion. He cautioned against treating allegations as established facts and urged journalists to maintain independence and objectivity in their reporting.

Bokoru stressed that if allegations were true, they should be presented as such, but if they were mere allegations, they should be labeled as such. He warned against the danger of allowing repetition to turn accusations into proof and called on media organizations to pursue the truth without succumbing to political or governmental narratives.
