국회 간 오세훈 “실거주 여부로 투기꾼 재단하는 발상 버려라”

On January 14, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon made a rare appearance at the National Assembly's National Policy Action Meeting of the People's Power, criticizing the government's proposal for a uniform policy to classify citizens as speculative real estate investors based solely on their residential status. He vehemently rejected the government's claim that the mayor's district was targeted due to difficulties in obtaining land supply, labeling it as "despicable backpedaling."

During the meeting, Oh took the floor after the main representatives, stating that while some improvements in regulation had been made in response to Seoul's repeated requests, the overall approach of excluding Seoul from policy decisions was unacceptable. He argued that it was necessary to abandon the one-size-fits-all approach to classifying citizens as speculative investors, reduce the tax benefits for long-term property owners, and lessen the burden on individuals who are unable to live in their homes due to lack of time or other circumstances.

Oh also highlighted the fact that during the previous term of Mayor Park Won-soon, 389 zoning areas in Seoul were released, and no new housing redevelopment projects were approved between 2016 and 2020, resulting in a significant supply gap. He urged the National Assembly to address the unreasonable regulations that hinder progress and open up avenues for supply.

Following the meeting, Oh met with reporters and escalated his criticism, accusing President Yoon Suk-yeol of making baseless allegations about the lack of housing supply during his term, and criticizing the current administration and the Democratic Party for attempting to "duck out of the problem" and "backpedaling." He emphasized that the situation was "disgraceful and dishonest."
