SIU investigating after OPP officer, 2 others injured in multi-vehicle crash in Kawartha Lakes

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has called in the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to probe a multi-vehicle crash in Kawartha Lakes that left three people injured, including a police officer. The incident occurred on Friday around 2 p.m. on Highway 35 near Royal Cedar Road, when the OPP responded to a three-vehicle collision.

One of the vehicles was reportedly a police cruiser. The OPP stated that three individuals, including the injured officer, were taken to the hospital, but did not provide further details on the severity of the injuries. The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear at this stage, and the SIU, an independent government agency tasked with investigating potential misconduct by police officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, or firearm discharge, has launched an inquiry into the matter.
