Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Mumbai Sessions Court Frames Charges Against Accused Shariful Fakir, Trial Set To Begin

Mumbai's sessions court has formally charged Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, in connection with the alleged stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, setting the stage for the upcoming trial. Fakir faces multiple charges, including dacoity, house trespass, illegal entry into India under a false identity. Initially, he claimed he had not been provided the chargesheet and related documents, but the court has directed the prosecution to supply all relevant materials.

According to police, Fakir entered Khan's home on the 12th floor of a Bandra building on January 16, 2026, through the bathroom. He climbed the building and entered without knowing it belonged to the actor. Once inside, Fakir demanded money and held the family at knifepoint. A complaint by a staff nurse at the residence revealed that Fakir first attacked Khan's son, Jehangir, in his bedroom.

The nurse stopped him, but Fakir allegedly continued his assault, demanding Rs 1 crore. When Khan intervened, Fakir allegedly attacked him with a knife.

Emergency surgery was required for Khan at Lilavati Hospital, after which he was discharged after five days. Fakir allegedly fled during the scuffle and was arrested on January 19, 2026. Fakir's lawyers argue that his arrest was illegal as police did not provide him with a copy of the grounds of arrest. They claim that informing an accused of the reasons for their arrest prior to custody is mandatory. The bail plea remains pending.
