RG Kar case: Eggs hurled at ex-TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh outside Bengal police station

Outside the Khardah Police Station in North 24 Parganas district, an angry mob attacked former Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh and former party councillor Sanjib Mukherjee on Friday morning. Both men were arrested earlier in the week, with Ghosh apprehended in Odisha and Mukherjee captured in Kolkata. The duo faced accusations of involvement in the quick cremation of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024.

As police and Rapid Action Force personnel tried to escort Ghosh to a prison van, protesters hurled eggs, punches, and other objects at him, prompting him to wear a helmet to protect himself. Similar incidents occurred for Mukherjee, who also received eggs during the ordeal. Outside the police station, Bharatiya Janata Party supporters staged loud protests, playing DJ music, waving shoe garlands, and shouting "thief" slogans as the accused were taken to Barrackpore Sub-Divisional Court.

Additionally, some supporters greeted the accused with their own set of slogans at the court, while the police rushed them to the lockup.
