Ramsay-Peaty confused by early exit at Europeans

Former Olympic and world champion Adam Ramsay-Peaty expressed confusion over his poor performance at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. After an unbeaten streak of 16 gold medals between 2014 and 2020, Ramsay-Peaty's winning run came to an end. He finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke and fourth in the mixed medley relay.

However, he missed the 50m breaststroke semi-finals, coming eighth in his heat. Ramsay-Peaty, 31, had set the world record in 2017 with a time of 25.95 seconds but struggled in Paris, clocking 27.34 seconds. He expressed frustration, stating, "Even now I am like, it is so bad that I'm confused." Ramsay-Peaty has been working on his dive technique with coach Lisa Bates since June, believing that changing his approach in the water might help.

Compatriot Filip Nowacki, who won gold and silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, also failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing 18th in the heats.
