Raiders Tease QB Shakeup After Fernando Mendoza's NFL Debut

The Las Vegas Raiders have indicated their intentions for quarterback Kirk Cousins' role on their roster following the team's recent draft pick, Fernando Mendoza. Initially, the plan was for Cousins to be the starting quarterback for the season, with Mendoza serving as a developmental player. However, should the Raiders fail to make the playoffs at the end of the season, the future of Cousins' position at quarterback becomes uncertain.

On Friday, head coach Klint Kubiak revealed that the coaching staff would consider allotting more first-team reps to Mendoza after his performance in the Raiders' 27-14 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Kubiak stated that all three players - Mendoza, Aidan O’Connell, and Cousins - deserved first-team reps, but they needed to devise a plan on how to divide them.

Mendoza's performance against the Cardinals was not perfect, as he completed 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Despite missing a few throws, Kubiak acknowledged Mendoza's self-criticism and determination to improve. As the team's starting quarterback, Mendoza will need to be prepared for his regular season debut.
