Qatar concludes its combined report discussion with UN disability committee

In Geneva, Qatar concluded its discussion of its combined report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad thanked the Committee for their constructive dialogue and appreciated contributions from various entities.

She emphasized that dialogue is crucial for progress in human rights, enabling understanding, cooperation, and sharing of expertise. Qatar intends to use insights from the dialogue to improve its laws and programs for persons with disabilities, guided by human rights principles. The minister reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to human rights as a priority in its reform and development.

She expressed the country's desire to bolster cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms to promote and protect these rights. Qatar seeks to enhance training programs to raise awareness of the Convention and integrate the needs of persons with disabilities into its policies and services. The minister encouraged the Committee's experts to consider the varied legal and cultural contexts of states when developing guidance, and to recognize the value of diverse experiences in advancing human rights.

She concluded by expressing Qatar's belief that international cooperation is essential for sustainable progress in human rights and pledged to continue collaborating with the Committee, the international community, and other stakeholders to address challenges and ensure no one is left behind.
