President Zardari approves summoning of NA, Senate sessions on August 17

President Asif Ali Zardari has given his approval for the summoning of both the National Assembly and Senate on August 17, as announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The President's Secretariat confirmed this decision via a post on social media platform X, stating that the National Assembly session will convene at 5pm and the Senate session at 4pm.

In addition to the sessions, President Zardari has also ordered a special 100-day remission in prison sentences for eligible prisoners, coinciding with Independence Day and Eid Miladun Nabi. This gesture aims to provide relief to those imprisoned and celebrate the nation's significant national holidays.

Furthermore, the President has approved the awarding of national honours to citizens from various civil sectors, recognizing their contributions to society. The President's actions come after he recently granted assent to the appointment of 19 additional judges for five high courts and the confirmation of another five as permanent judges. This move resolves a prolonged deadlock between the Presidency and the government regarding judicial appointments.
