Police uncover plot to kidnap bishops’ wives in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspects linked to a plot to kidnap the wives of two Anglican Bishops of Jos. Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan disclosed these details during his inaugural press conference at the Police Officers' Mess in Jos, confirming the suspects are currently in custody and will face court if found guilty.

Faniyan highlighted the police's role in preventing the alleged abduction, emphasizing that vigilance contributed to uncovering the plot. He pledged to adopt a proactive, intelligence-driven, and technology-based approach to policing, with a focus on eradicating crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent offenses. The commissioner stressed his administration's commitment to uphold human rights, professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law, while zero-tolerance for corruption and unprofessional behaviour would be maintained.

Faniyan also announced the reorganization of anti-vice squads and the promotion of community policing, inviting traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the safety of Plateau State. The police force received additional security assets but called for further support to effectively address its security challenges.

The commissioner urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information, stressing that security could only be achieved through a partnership between law enforcement agencies and the public.
