Police recover pistols, cult caps from abandoned motorcycle in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally-made pistols and three caps inscribed with Viking Confraternity symbols from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area. The items were seized by officers of the command's Violent Crime Response Unit during a regular patrol on Thursday along the Isuaniocha Bridge.

Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced the recovery in a statement on Friday. According to Ikenga, the officers spotted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a license plate when they made a hasty turn upon seeing the police. This prompted the officers to chase the suspects. The riders eventually jumped off the motorcycle and left it, along with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush.

A search of the discarded bag led to the discovery of the firearms and caps. Ikenga revealed, "The Anambra State Police Command has once again achieved a significant feat during a routine patrol operation, with the Violent Crime Response Unit team recovering two fabricated pistols and three caps inscribed with a secret cult's insignia from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area."

He added that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects and determine their affiliations with the Vikings Confraternity. The Commissioner of Police for Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed his officers to intensify efforts to catch the suspects. He emphasized the command's commitment to ongoing patrolling, intelligence-led operations, and proactive policing to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of the state's residents.

In July, Lagos State Police Command officers arrested an alleged armed robbery suspect and recovered a homemade pistol along with various charms during a routine patrol in Lagos' Igando area.
