She expressed pain over these comments and shared that she would not wish what her family is going through on anyone. Understanding the criticism Hilton faced due to his controversial past, Lavandeira defended her brother's acknowledgment of his past wrongdoings.

In 2010, Hilton publicly admitted on television that his actions were wrong and he apologized repeatedly. Lavandeira emphasized that her brother has changed significantly over the past two decades and has genuinely tried to become a better person. She urged people not to reduce him to his worst past actions, especially when he has taken steps towards personal growth.

Lavandeira's remarks came after Jared Padalecki, a supportive figure for Hilton, retracted his post of support due to criticism over Hilton's past online behavior. Padalecki, who is an advocate for mental health following his own struggles with depression and anxiety, initially shared his support on X, stating his hope for Hilton's well-being.

However, several followers criticized Padalecki for not being aware of Hilton's past. In response, Padalecki removed his post and apologized, stating that he had no idea about Hilton's past when he made his supportive comment. On a July appearance on the "Hang Out With Sean Hannity" podcast, Hilton expressed deep regret for targeting celebrities on his blog, admitting that he could be funny without being cruel. He acknowledged the heavy baggage he carries due to his past actions.
